I know that some of you have read this, maybe multiple times. But, we can’t have a week with Quantum Yin and leave this out. Maybe, you will read it again, and glean something new from it or read it for the first time.
WALKING THE MOBIUS STRIP WITH QUANTUM YIN + THE DRAGON COLLECTIVE:
CONTEMPLATIONS ON UNDOING DUALISM THROUGH THE COMPASSIONATE EMBODIMENT OF BOTH AND NEITHER
KUAN YIN AND THE MOBIUS STRIP AS LIVING SYMBOL
If we desire to transcend dualism or an old paradigm/belief system, continuing to rely upon linear, traditional, dichotomously based language may actually serve to re-inscribe dualism and the very belief system that we desire to shift. We have recently conceptualized that anything created from the same field of frequencies can only produce more of the same frequencies.
Collectively, Images/Icons, then, and descriptions of them, need to be regarded as valid and necessary participants in the evolutionary process of transcending dualistic thinking, as they actually do work that traditional discursive concepts cannot. They can function with the flexibility and immediacy that words seem to lack, to express something that is currently in process of becoming known.
By intentionally working with the Language as symbol we create an open space of allowance for new experiences to enter into our reality and collective field.
Embracing Kuan Yin and The Mobius Strip as living images of mutually affecting interaction and interdependence: giving and receiving, action and receptivity, call and response, and Being and doing allows us to walk the path where the outside of the strip leads one directly to its inside without at any point leaving its surface. The depth, or rather the effects of depth, are thus generated purely through the manipulation, rotation, and inscription of the flat plane—serving us with a contemplative opportunity to reflect on the undoing of dualisms. The movement along a Möbius strip contains the energy of the infinite alpha and omega, a flow without beginning or end, a process that envisions a Möbius strip with Universal Oneness at one end (to start with) and the individual as a unique expression of the Divine—with a past life history and something to offer to the world through that—at the other. Where while in motion, the two interact reciprocally in a co-creative process. Contemplating the path of the Möbius strip can overcome the entrenched dichotomy between inside and outside, conveying unification of the felt sense of our human experience while remembering the vastness of our being and the greatness of our place within our Cosmic Connections, the Earth and the Universe.
QUANTUM YIN + THE DRAGON COLLECTIVE:
FLUIDITY + THE POWER OF EMBODYING THE FREQUENCY OF COMPASSION
Among the disciples called by the Buddha to reveal his meditation method was a Bodhisattva of Compassion, due to one of his/her unique qualities, which appears in one of Kuan Yin’s often used mantras—Om Maha Karuna Hri Kuan Shi Yin—“Homage to the Great Kuan Yin, S(He) who hears the suffering of the world.” Yin provides solace and inspiration, serving a function not unlike that of Mary Magdalen or Guadalupe. However, the legends that give rise to Kuan Yin are, at least in some ways, more complex than those of her more Christian-based counterparts.
In the Surangama Sutra, Kuan Yin is described as a male. But as time progressed he became a she in some traditions. Although the stories of Kuan Yin’s origins emerge from and diverge into various mythologies, there seems to be agreement that her/his career began in India in the first centuries of the Common Era as the male figure Avalokitesvara. Some historians have traced the movement of Kuan Yin’s legacy into China.
In Japan, Kuan Yin is called Kannon and is sometimes conceived as a Bodhisattva who can express him/herself as the duality of either a male or female. There is a fluidity to Kuan Yin’s shifting gender that offers compassionate and necessary gifts, often, startling, intriguing, and comforting, depending on one’s circumstances.
There is perhaps no icon that better lends itself to wide-scale appropriation than Kuan Yin partly because she/he is her/himself the result of a long and tumultuous process of appropriation and assimilation. As she/he made the long trek from India, across the Himalayas into Tibet, and then on to China, Japan, and beyond, she/he has been transformed in countless ways and for countless purposes. Bodhisattvas such as Kuan Yin are intimately connected to upaya, ‘‘skillful means.’’ Meaning, the dharma should be communicated according to an individual’s own capacities for understanding, and their particular situations.
Similarly, the Beings constantly remind me (us), that the message ––the method of communication and form of delivery––must meet the consciousness exactly where that person is, in that particular moment. In other words, this can be distilled down to: “if the person does not have the consciousness to form, essentially, to ask the question then they do not contain within them in that moment the ability to receive the response.” Any information brought through beyond that would be considered preaching, defending, or proving oneself, relating to the ego, and/or self-serving. Often times, when I find myself delivering more than the message requested, I am usually doing it because I have found myself fascinated with an aspect of the information and begin seeking beyond the information requested/provided. While there is a time and place for this inquiry (with like-minded friends), and remembering that this (or anything) is neither good nor bad, it is valuable and necessary to recognize when this occurs within oneself. Because the instant this occurs, there is a shift, and the energy is no longer entirely focused on the questioner but, moves towards and becomes about the messenger, as well.
SIDE NOTE:
Beyond sessions/readings, I have found this foundational piece of advice particularly useful in 3D-oriented conversations, especially during more challenging communications between parents, family, and soul contract relationships. During challenging communication experiences, the instant we shift into a position of defense, feel the need to be right, desire to explain ourselves, or? We lose our neutrality and fluidity. We can no longer see with clarity, or actually, be present in the conversation or be with the experience. When we bring in past experiences, old wounds, future potential anxieties, expectations, etc. none of which are actually part of the present moment, we are encountering stuck energies held within the bodies. Rather than being compassionate observers, we have a tendency to shift out of the body and into the mind (partially due to habits of self-preservation), narrating our experience from the mind to the body. We think that we are experiencing the present when we are truly attempting to control the experience from the mind and not embodying the actual experience at all.
Buddhist ethics, especially as expressed by Mahayana Buddhism, emphasizes that it is an action’s contribution to the alleviation of suffering that makes it right and not whether it adheres perfectly to a predetermined moral principle. In other words, Kuan Yin’s shifting gender also seems to have been, in part, a way to make this icon fit within the time, needs, and consciousness of the people.
With respect to gender, for example, she/he is not simply an androgynous character, but one who, never having determinately slipped from male to female, might also slip back, or linger tranquilly (or unnervingly) in between. (There is Divinity in the liminal space! All of us must find comfort in the liminal space, in the inbetweeness of experience. Not only must we find comfort here, but we must FALL IN LOVE with it. This is our greatest power point) He was not ‘‘born’’ a woman but rather was somehow transformed from the male bodhisattva Avalokitesvara over a period of centuries. It is not even quite correct to conclude simply that Kuan Yin was a male and is now a female, for she continues to be depicted as both. She is both universal and particular, stable, and ever-shifting, and we can embrace gorgeous lessons from this. As we navigate through a somatophobic culture, that insists we conform to some supposedly generic concept of being ‘‘human,’’ or masculine or feminine, Kuan Yin reminds us to give ourselves permission to experience, express, and explore our marginalized identities whatever they might be, and find joy within the wonderful, messy, embodied experience—embracing our Sovereign Self, free from the influence of others.
Kuan Yin or as I lovingly call her: “Quantum Yin + the (Water) Dragon Collective,” were very present throughout the entirety of my divorce. My ex-husband and I were sharing the same home during the long process. Although, it was wildly uncomfortable––pretty horrible, really––I was, at the time, so clear that I was in the midst of learning a tremendous amount. Somehow, I had enrolled in the Super Accelerated Quantum Yin + Dragon’s School of Advanced Compassion. Care-Giving, nurturing, compassion, and empathic, like so many of you, are all words that have been used to describe me. Yet, those energies are only a few facets of a hugely powerful and multifaceted gem that Quantum Yin + the Dragon embodies and emanates. They are the frequency that is COMPASSION. The very first lesson for me to integrate was: “Compassion sometimes means doing nothing for another.” I had to let go of every aspect of myself that was un/consciously participating in supporting my ex-husband (especially, emotionally and energetically). I had to turn all of that towards myself––self-healing and self-loving. Additionally, due to the polarities now operating in one physical space, this kind of vortex-like energy field was created, there were entities, thought-form attachments, and energies that showed up and stayed (if someone un/consciously doesn’t want certain energies to leave, it doesn’t matter how many times a healer or psychopomp removes them, the entities will come right back). So much healing was required beyond simple “self-healing.” For many of us, self-healing is no small task LOL! I had to learn how to work with all of these dark forces or as I prefer to call them non-beneficial energies (NBE’s) or “developing light energies” through compassion, which is an entirely different approach to moving this quality and texture of energy. It requires (always) Sovereignty and then relies on frequency shifting, openness, and inviting energies into very high-frequency fields, essentially, for rehabilitation. Something, we all deserve to have as an option.
She/he constantly reminded me that this world is MESSY. All that we can ever do, is show up as our best self and meet each moment with grace, love, and compassion. While this Earthly plane is full of Nature’s Majesties, (which are energies truly trying to reflect our Divinity to us), it is absolutely not perfect, but, neither are we. Quantum Yin + the Dragon, live out the promise that our beliefs about who and what we are can serve as conceptual and imaginative tools with which we might help one another negotiate a lovely, messy, and often challenging world.
